My father and I are coming together for his 150th film: Ram Charan
Mumbai: If there is a prouder son than superstar Ram Charan Teja in all of Andhra Pradesh then it would be hard to find.
On August 22 when the iconic Chiranjeevi turned 60, Ram Charan threw a big celebratory bash for his father. It turned out to be quite an event.
Looking back at the entire experience of bringing his father’s friends, co-stars, and admirers together under one roof Ram says modestly, “My wife and I managed the entire thing. It was the least I could do for my father who means the world to me. When at the event my dad was overwhelmed with emotions I felt I had done something worthwhile in my life.”
Family friend Salman Khan flew in especially for the event. “He not only came to the function he performed impromptu to a medley of my dad’s songs. It was an awesome experience. Salman just looked at the video monitor playing my dad’s songs and began dancing unrehearsed.”
Ram wanted to gift his father with the announcement of a new film starring the two of them. “We would’ve announced it on his birthday. But acquiring the remake rights has taken longer than we thought. It will be his 150th film. I’ll be producing the film.”
Though father and son will come together in this film, Ram Charan won’t be taking centre stage with his father. “It will be his show all the way. I will be in the film. But only playing one of the principal characters. Dad will be the central character in an author-backed role.”
Ram Charan Teja plans to return to Hindi film after his flop debut in Zanjeer two years ago. “I was most definitely put off Bollywood by that experience. In fact I can even joke about it. At my father’s birthday I introduced my Zanjeer director Apoorva Lakhia as my only flop director.”
There was talk of Ram Charan returning to Hindi films with Ashutosh Gowariker’s Mohenjo Daro.
The Telugu star admits there were talks. “I admire his work and met him for that film. But the talks didn’t go far enough. I am going to be doing another Hindi film soon.”
