Kapil Sharma’s comedy vs Madhur’s calendar girls

The Calendar Girls team, meanwhile, has also said that their film isn’t about titillation
TV’s favourite funnyman Kapil Sharma is excited about the release of his upcoming film, Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu. The Abbas-Mustan film, however, will face some stiff competition from Madhur Bhandrakar’s Calendar Girls, which also releases on the same day — September 25.
While KKPK banks on Kapil’s comic timing in a story about “one hapless man and the five women in his life”, Calendar Girls has already got a fair bit of attention for its visuals of gorgeous bikini-clad actresses. Calendar Girls director Madhur Bhandarkar admits that his film will have to contend with Kapil’s fan following. “Kapil’s popularity on television cannot be denied,” points out Madhur. “His stardom on television is bound to spill over onto the big screen.”
However, a source connected to Kapil’s film thinks the two films won’t be competing for eyeballs. “KKPK has no titillation. It is a naughty comedy about a man with a roving eye. Kapil’s role is inspired by Sanjeev Kumar in B.R. Chopra’s Pati Patni Aur Woh. There is no raunchy or risqué content. Kapil was very clear that he didn’t want to let his family audience down by doing anything vulgar,” the source says.
The Calendar Girls team, meanwhile, has also said that their film isn’t about titillation. “Look, there are barely four to five shots of girls in bikinis. The story is an emotional one, of these girls’ journey from obscurity to fame. Obviously, a film about calendar girls will have bikini shots,” an aide of Madhur told us.
