Drought-hit Karnataka will present its case before PM Narendra Modi
Bengaluru: At a crucial meeting on Monday evening, drought-hit Karnataka which has witnessed an uprecedented spree of farmer suicides, will present its case before PM Narendra Modi seeking Central assistance. An all-party delegation which will include Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and BJP bigwigs, will take up five major problems with the PM. Topping the agenda are the Mahadayi river diversion row with Goa, sugarcane growers issue and the crisis which has gripped the sericulture sector.
“We will request the PM to talk to the CM of BJP ruled Goa and convince the government not to obstruct the Mahadayi drinking water project,”' said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah after a preliminary all-party meeting in Bengaluru. “All parties are united, no one should indulge in politicking,” he said.
Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge drew a parallel with the successful intervention of former PM late Indira Gandhi in the Telugu-Ganga project row and wanted the Prime Minister to convince the Goa Chief Minister on the drinking water project.The delegation will miss the presence of JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy who said he could not accompany the CM due to health issues.
