Visakhapatnam police to be strict with boozers
Visakhapatnam: With several complaints from various quarters against tipplers, the city police have formed special teams to take action against those who are creating nuisance by consuming liquor in public places.
Drinking in public places and in front of liquor shops has been going on for long in several areas in the city. Students of various colleges have transformed open places into bars creating a nuisance to residents.
Though the cops have taken action against few tipplers in the past, it has been infrequent at some places like MVP Colony area in the city says Anil Kumar, a resident of the area. Kumar also mentioned that students, including girls from professional colleges, huddle in a group guzzling liquor openly.
In a drunken stupor, they fling empty bottles on the road and often get into arguments with motorists, he added.
The Beach Road between Rushikonda and RK Beach, AU Engineering College ground, MVP Colony, Kancharapalem, Akka-yyapalem, railway station and few other areas in the city are popular haunts between 7 pm to 11 pm. ACP (Task Force) I. Chittibabu said they launched a crackdown on dhabas on Beach Road for selling liquor illegally. Strict action will be initiated against anyone found drinking at public places.
