Tiger jump sees leap in footfalls

The inquisitiveness among visitors about the incident was high

Hyderabad: A Royal Bengal Tiger leaping out of its cage at Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad seems to have caught the imagination of the people. The number of visitors recorded in the zoo on Sunday, a day after the incident, jum-ped by 3,710 people compared to last Sunday’s figures.

The inquisitiveness among visitors about the incident was high. Zoo guards said that many visitors asked various questions, like how was the tiger tranquilized, whether any of the tigers on display in the enclosure is Kadamba, the escaped tiger and could the tiger escape again.

On Sunday 17,735 people visited the zoo generating a revenue of Rs 4,94,150 as compared to last Sunday, Aug. 16, when 14,025 people had visited it and Rs 3,88,790 was generated.

Zoo curator, Gopi Ravi on Sunday said that the tiger is safe and the effect of the drug used for tranquilizing is wearing of, as it usually takes 24 hours.

The veterinary wing is keeping a constant vigil. The breeding would take place in the same cage from where it escaped on Saturday but this time roof of the cage will be closed.
