Paediatric Ayurveda hospital from September
KOZHIKODE: The District Panchayat’s ayurveda hospital ‘Aayushkameeyam’, exclusively for children and adolescents, will start functioning from September at Paloramala in Thalakulathur village. The hospital will have OP, physiotherapy, counselling, occupational therapy and panchakarma therapy facilities besides 30-beds.
“This is a first-of-its kind hospital in the state. The inception of the hospital is a part of the project to make Thalakulathur an Ayurveda village. More than 200 medicinal plants from the state medicinal plants board have been planted on the hospital premises,” said the project coordinator Dr Sreekumar Namboodiri.
The hospital has been built on the 4.05 acre of land owned by KHRWS (Kerala health research and welfare society) which was earmarked to build a panchakarma treatment centre when A.C. Shanmukhadas was the health minister.
A building costing Rs 30 lakh was built on the land but did not function for many decades. Later, the district panchayat bought the land and got the approval of the state government to start an Ayurveda hospital for paediatrics. Of the total fund for ‘Aayushkameeyam’, the district panchayat has borne Rs 1.3 crore while Rs 80 lakh was paid by the health department.
“Almost all the construction work is over. We are awaiting the inauguration in early September. The hospital is conceived in such a way that it could be developed as a major Ayurveda centre in future,” said district panchayat president, Kanathil Jameela.
