Nizamsagar waits for redesign
Nizamabad: Nizamsagar, the oldest project in Telangana will get a facelift in the proposed re-engineering of projects by the state government. The people, particularly from the farming community is curious about the reengineering proposal by CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
The former Nizam government had decided to construct Nizamsagar project across river Manjeera in the 1920s. In view of the severe drought conditions in those days, the rulers had decided to construct the project for agriculture needs. The project work began in 1923 and completed 1931.
A total ayacut of 3.20 lakh acres was created with the construction of the project. The project has been irrigating 2.60 lakh acres of kharif crops and 60,000 acres of rabi crops. Due to silt piled in the project, its ayacut area restricted only 1.30 lakh acres.
