More cops, CCTVs to augment Onam vigil
ThIruvananthapuram: The city police has deployed around 1,000 additional personnel and will soon open special control rooms at Kanakakunnu, Poojapura, Central stadium, East Fort and Kovalam as part of Onam security arrangements, city police commissioner H Venkatesh said.
Two deputy commissioners, 10 assistant commissioners, 15 circle inspectors, 90 sub inspectors and not less than 250 women personnel will be part of the force that will be pressed into service.
Apart from the existing 231 functional CCTV cameras, a hundred more will be put to service at Kanakakunnu, Shangu-mugham and Veli which are thronged by people. Not less than 30 cameras mounted on moving vehicles are expected to combat rising pick-pockets.
Booster bikes and normal patrol bikes will scout the bylanes to thw-art chain snatchers while special squads will regulate parking and evict traders who encroach footpath, police said in an official statement.
Watch towers will be installed at various places and special border checking organised at entry points to the city.
Considering the floating population and government employees returning to their native places, beat patrolling also will be strengthened.
Citizens who go out of station have been asked to inform either their loc-al police station or leave an email at cptvm.pol@k-erala.gov.in with their specific address and time they will go out of station.
