Doctors evade Osmania General Hospital demolition questions

The doctors pointed out that the government had told the High Court that there was no proposal to demolish the structure

Hyderabad: Telangana government doctors on Sunday evaded questions by the media on the demolition of the old OGH building.

Speaking to the media, the doctors pointed out that the government had told the High Court that there was no proposal to demolish the structure.

However, a senior doctor, who is a member of the association, said, “The statement that there is no proposal for demolition has various meanings. Does this mean that the CM’s earlier statement that the building would be demolished stands cancelled? There is no clarity on that. That is the issue which is troubling heritage lovers and doctors who are opposing demolition of the building. The group show organised suddenly by getting all doctors together is also raising doubts.”

He added, “Health services have been deteriorating for long and issues have been raised from time to time. But no one came together then. Why now?”

A senior doctor, on condition of anonymity, said, “Let the patients be shifted and the building repaired to bring back its lost glory. It must not be that the patients are shifted and then the building is left to deteriorate. That would be unfair.”
