Dialing 100? Hear soothing tunes

Vidyashankar was approached by DCP (East) C.K. Baba to compose music for people who dial 100

Bengaluru: Aneesh Vidyashankar is, in a word, unstoppable. The 24-year-old violinist has accomplished more than many people twice his age and his latest project, a not-for-profit initiative with the Bengaluru police, will be launched across the city shortly. Vidyashankar was approached by DCP (East) C.K. Baba to compose music and a message for people who dial 100.

“Baba sir and I have very similar taste in music. He's a fan of my work and I'm a fan of his,” laughed Vidyashankar, who says the team has worked tirelessly over the past month to get the tune together. “We wanted to do something nice for the people of Bengaluru. Those who call 100 are in trouble, so it doesn’t make sense to have a happy-go-lucky voice recording at the other end,” he explained. “That message has been made more serious now, we need to reassure the people who call the police, instead of making them feel like they are being put indefinitely on hold.” Vidyashankar has reworked the patriotic classic Saare Jahaan Se Achcha, which is composed in Raag Kapi. “Baba sir wanted a patriotic song, which is why we came up with this,” he said. Vidyashankar is accompanied by a keyboard, trumpet and a drum. This is only the start of a series of people-friendly initiatives that will bridge the gap between the police force and the public.

“The song will be used on the 100 number soon but it now plays if you call any officer on his mobile,” said Vidyashankar.

“The other projects are also very innovative and haven't been attempted before in the city, just like the tune we have composed.” People who were involved Sharan Rao on keys, Chiru Bhat flute, and Vijay from Vijay studio for mixing mastering and recording. If at all if would be possible to mention these names it would be great.
