Custodial death: Woman dies after grilling, cops blame BP
Hyderabad: A 38-year-old woman who collapsed at the Asifnagar police station while being questioned died in hospital on Sunday. Police said she was called for questioning in a theft case. Her family who initially alleged that she had died of injuries, later clarified that she was suffering from low BP and other problems.
Police said she had a history of health problems and had the habit of consuming liquor. A case of custodial death under Section 176 was registered and transferred to CCS.
The deceased, N. Padma, 38, was a resident of Mehdipatnam. She was working as a daily wager at function halls and was staying with her sons Sai Kumar and Ravi Kumar. Her husband Raju died in 2009.
Recently two other women, Manjula and Lakshmi joined her and they were staying together. A few days ago, Manjula and Lakshmi stole a bag containing jewellery and clothes belonging to a woman from Ayodhyanagar.
They gave the bag to Padma and told her to hide it. Later, the woman found in her home CCTV camera that Manjula and Lakshmi had stolen her bag and they told that they had hid the bag at Padma’s house.
“The woman called Padma to her home and beat her up. When Padma claimed innocence she lodged a complaint with Asifnagar police. She was called for questioning on Friday and let off in the evening. On Saturday morning also she was called. During the questioning she collapsed,” said Asifnagar ACP Ghouse Moinuddin.
