This German student lives on trains instead of paying apartment rent
A young German college student was so fed up of paying steep apartment rent costs that she decided that she didn’t want to live the life of a tenant anymore. Leonie Muller has made the trains her choice of residence and she is not regretting it one bit.
The 23-year-old bought a subscription that allows her to board every train in the country for free. She washes her hair in the train bathroom and writes her college papers while travelling at the speed of up to 190 mph. “I really feel at home on trains, and can visit so many more friends and cities. It's like being on vacation all the time," Müller told the Washington Post via email.
With just a small backpack in which she carries clothes, her tablet computer, college documents and a sanitary bag, Muller fits the description of the modern train-nomad perfectly. Although she mostly crashes at apartments of friends and relatives to spend the night, Muller insists that life on the train is not boring at all. "I read, I write, I look out of the window and I meet nice people all the time. There's always something to do on trains," Muller told German TV station SWR.
