Emotions to art
Artist Ramesh Chindam’s art exhibition, Untold Expressions, at San Francisco’s, Academy of Art University Gallery has been all about life’s unexpressed emotions and feelings... especially those that have shaped his life.
Originally from a small village, Garshkaurthy in Karimnagar district, Ramesh moved to Hyderabad in 2000 to study at JNAFAU. “My father is a weaver and as a result my life was surrounded by colours and textures. I started sketching as a child and what started as a hobby soon turned into an integral part of my life. But I never thought of taking up art until I finished my XII standard. I was all set to do a degree in medicine but then I found out about bachelors in arts and I moved to Hyderabad,” says Ramesh. After his graduation, Ramesh went abroad in 2006.
“I studied at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco. After I graduated, I showcased my work in both solo and group shows at galleries such as the Montgomery Gallery in San Francisco, Mission Art Gallery and a couple of group shows in Indianapolis and Texas. Recently, this gallery approached me for my solo show,” he says.
In his current show, Ramesh has 22 artworks on display. “Untold Expressions emphasises on hidden expressions and emotions. Life is all about expressions and my work portrays different kinds of expressions that I think are important. Through this exhibition I focus on sensitive feelings and emotions of humans that are not expressed easily,” he says.
Apart from the ongoing exhibition, Ramesh is busy planning for the future. “I have a couple of projects lined-up in NYC and LA, but the dates aren’t finalised. I also have plans to organise multiple workshops and art camps in India and I’m working with few of my friends to finalise these plans. These will be held in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Delhi,” he says.
