Trouble brews again in HCA
As a result, 11 officials of the 18 present walked out of the meeting.
Hyderabad: Trouble is brewing in the Hyderabad Cricket Association yet again, this time after 11 officials walked out of an acrimonious Executive Committee meeting on Saturday. Much of the rancour was caused by alleged irregularities in HCA’s accounts.
It was all sparked off over the issue of payments for the canopy structure at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Association in Uppal. According to sources, a decision was taken to withhold the payment at the previous AGM but the current committee cleared the payment in its very first AGM, the minutes of which were circulated among the members only 10 days ago, and several members took issue with being kept in the dark.
Members are also not happy with alleged discrepancies in HCA’s accounts, with regards to payments to coaches and support staff. Add to that the fact that earlier this year, HCA was in trouble with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, who had seized some office furniture and cut off electricity because of overdue taxes. In July, HCA president Arshad Ayub was booked for fraud for allegedly taking money from people for flats and not delivering the same. When one of the members brought this issue up, tempers flared. The member asked Arshad to step aside from his HCA post till he clears his name from the police cases.
As a result, 11 officials of the 18 present walked out of the meeting. This does not bode well for the Hyderabad Cricket Association. Last year, the ruling group had swept into power, winning 21 of the 22 seats. However, that sense of unity seems to be fast eroding with the body resorting to infighting.
