Telugu Desam central panel to help party grow

The party has six general secretaries and six vice-presidents in state-level committees
Hyderabad: AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday ruled out the possibility of declaring the Telugu Desam as a national party, for now. For the time being, a central committee will be appointed.
Mr Naidu, who held a meeting with ministers, party MLAs, MLCs and others at Vijayawada, said the TD would appoint two separate committees for AP and Telangana. He said to oversee party affairs in both states a central committee, to be headed by himself, will be appointed.
He said the party will contest in two or three more states other than Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the next elections. Only after that can the TD be declared a national party in the lines of the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.
TD senior leader and former minister K. Kala Venkat Rao proposed the appointment of Nara Lokesh as general secretary in the central committee, which was accepted by party leaders.
He said that during party patriarch N.T. Rama Rao’s time, Mr Naidu was appointed as general secretary and he strengthened the party in every district.
However, Mr Naidu did not make his personal opinion clear on Mr Venkat Rao’s proposal.
Mr Venkat Rao and other leaders, including minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, suggested that Mr Naidu appoint small committees with committed leaders.
The party has six general secretaries and six vice-presidents in state-level committees. They told Mr Naidu to appoint three general secretaries with leaders who are committed.
Speaking about the ensuing Assembly session Mr Naidu asked ministers and MLAs to prepare thoroughly on every subject.
He suggested setting up subject-wise committees with MLAs to speak in the Assembly and as well as to counter the Opposition’s allegations.
He said that he would assess the performance of each party legislator in the Assembly.
