Technology to tackle crime in Andhra Pradesh
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday suggested usage of advanced technology like drone cameras or static balloon cameras with the help of Microsoft's TV White Spaces Project to keep a continuous vigil on red sanders smuggling in the state.
In a review meeting on law and order situation in the state conducted at his camp office, the CM said that use of drone cameras would help police in curbing smuggling of red sanders. The meeting was attended by state DGP, ADGPs, IGs and other senior officials.
The CM directed the department to include a facility in the Abhayam (android) app which would enable students to register complaint through the app to ensure strict action against those involved in ragging.
Mr Naidu expressed displeasure over the increase in crimes against women, economic offences, cyber crimes and road accidents in the state.
“It is unfortunate that incidents of rape have gone up by 24.4%, economic offences by 30%. Similarly, cyber crimes cases and road accidents are also on a rise. This shows that police department has not been able to do its job properly. Vigilance and enforcement has to be stringent. You cannot compromise on the security of citizens,” Mr Naidu said.
Meanwhile, to keep a vigil on criminals, Mr Naidu directed the officials for digitisation of crime data in the state. “Integrate the data with their Aadhaar numbers and monitor activities of criminals even after their release,” he added.
Mr Naidu also gave green signal for recruiting drivers and filling up vacancies in AP. He gave a nod to 33% reservation for women in civil police.
Chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, DGP J.V. Ramudu, principal secretary to CM Satish Chandra, additional director general (intelligence) A.B. Venkateswar Rao, Vijayawada city police commissioner Gautam Sawang were present.
