Svims director quits post due to political issues

Vengamma’s plea to health secretary

Tirupati: Svims director and vice-chancellor Vengamma sought her resignation from principal secretary of medical and health L.V. Subrahmanyam on August 20.

She met the principal secretary when she went to Hyderabad on August 20. Sources said that she spoke to him about the unnecessary issues she has been facing in the institute that are created by the political forces with the intention of sending her out. She requested Mr Subrahmanyam to relieve her from her responsibilities as director as well as vice-chancellor of the Svims.

She gave her resignation letter to him which did not get nod of the government yet. She was appointed as director of Svims in 2009 and she had developed Svims in academic and research fields. She introduced many innovative systems to keep the common patients away from inconvenience in getting OPs, getting medical tests etc.

Vengamma, when contacted, told Deccan Chronicle that she asked the principal secretary to accept her resignation as her tenure is coming to an end which would be in the next month. “No adverse circumstances forced me to resign from my office,” she clarified.

But, reliable sources and Svims staff said the harassment by ruling party forced her to resign and they said recent raids and confiscating of records hurt her sincerity.

It may be noted that the vigilance and enforcement officials recently raided Svims and they have taken away some records with them for verification. Staff belonging to all departments worried a lot after they come to know about her resignation.
