Ramesh Chennithala defends League in delimitation issue

Mr Chennithala told reporters here that the ward delimitation was a decision taken unanimously by the UDF
KOZHIKODE: The Indian Union Muslim League leaders, who were in a fix over the court orders on the new panchayats, have received support from Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala.
It may be recalled that the High Court had rejected the state government’s appeal against the single judge's order quashing the notifications creating the new panchayats.
Mr Chennithala told reporters here that the ward delimitation was a decision taken unanimously by the UDF. Blaming the Muslim League for the setback was not correct.
The ward delimitation was not done for the sake of League, he said. Later, he talked to IUML leader and Industry Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty over phone and extended his support on the issue.
“The IUML leadership never took any extraordinary step to hasten the delimitation process,” he said. The government has not taken any decision to conduct the civic polls in two phases.
“The timely conduct of election is what the UDF demands. Other matters will be decided after a meeting with the State Election Commission on Monday,” he added.
The police investigation into the CET student death was in right direction, he said. “The police will take stern action against the guilty,” he said.
