Rains lash parts of Karimnagar district

The showers can increase groundwater table in many towns

Karimnagar: Downpours caused by low pressure lashed several parts of the district on Saturday. Many mandals of Karimnagar, Pedda-palli, Jagtial and Manthani revenue divisions saw heavy rainfall. These rains cheered up farming community who were upset with scanty rainfall registered in the ongoing kharif season so far.

District headquarters Karimnagar city, Jagtial town, Odela, Kalwa Sri Rampur, Eliged, Julapalli, Choppadandi, Timmapur, Manakondur, Bejjenki, Malhar Rao and Manthani mandals recorded from moderate to high rainfall. Similarly, several other parts of the district too registered rains in the morning.

The rains rekindled hopes of farmers who were upset following prolonged dry spells on the current agriculture season. Tilling of land for sowing of paddy, cotton, maize and other crops has been intensified at many places across the district. The Saturday’s downpours will save some of the crops which were on the verge of withering.

The showers can increase groundwater table in many towns and villages that are facing acute shortage of drinking water.

In particular, Lower Manair Dam reached dead storage level following continuous dry spells in the monsoon, causing tension to authorities of KMC. However, the district has been seeing sporadic rains from the past few days.
