Hidden agenda behind DA case filed against me: A Raja
CBI filed a DA case against Raja for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets worth Rs 27.92 crore
Chennai: Suspecting political motive behind the disproportionate assets case ‘foisted’ against him by the CBI here on August 19, former telecom minister A. Raja on Saturday said there seems a hidden agenda behind the case.
CBI sleuths here on Wednesday filed a DA case against Raja for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets worth Rs 27.92 crore between 1999 and 2010.
CBI investigating officer Vijay Priyadarshini has confirmed, after investigating his income and income of his family members and relatives, in his testimony to the special judge on November 13, 2013, that there was no case of disproportionate assets against him, Raja told reporters at party headquarters Anna Arivalayam and added that the Chennai unit of the CBI had filed an FIR now stating that the properties of the late Sadhiq Basha- owned Green House Promoters Limited belonged to him.
Basha, an alleged associate of Raja, had committed suicide in 2011. “CBI Delhi unit says there is no culpability in the Green House Promoters Ltd. Whereas Chennai CBI says that all the properties accumulated by the Green House Promoters is my property,” Raja said.
“There is not only inconsistency on the part of CBI, income tax and enforcement directorate officials, it seems there is a hidden agenda and politics behind it. Therefore I have written a letter to the CBI investigating officer in Chennai,” Raja said before releasing the copy of his letter written to the CBI superintendent in Chennai.
“There cannot be a reinvestigation of the same matter, for the same period, again by another branch of the same investigating agency, more so, even without verifying and applying its mind to the detailed scrutiny already done,” read the letter, which also described the fresh DA as nothing but “harassment” not justifiable in law.
Noting that the affidavit declared by him while contesting from Nilgiris in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls was still available on the Internet, Raja said, “Whoever wants to see those details can download it from the internet. The question is whether I have assets more than the assets declared in it.”
