Few takers for BDS seats in both states

There are 10 dental colleges in the state

Hyderabad: There seems to be no takers for undergraduate dental seats in Telangana as well. Counselling for the management quota seats in medical and dental colleges in the state ended on Saturday. And though all the MBBS seats were filled, more than half of the dental seats are still left vacant.

The same was the situation in AP where most of the BDS seats were left vacant with students unwilling to study dental science.

Counselling to Category B medical seats was held on Friday and Saturday. Management quota MBBS seats cost Rs 9 lakh while for BDS it is Rs 4 lakh. At the end of counselling, 202 out of the 350 BDS seats were left vacant. There are 10 dental colleges in the state.

“Out of the 10, only Kamineni Institute of Dental Sciences and Panineeya Mahavidyalaya Institute of Dental Sciences could fill all their seats. All the medical seats were filled in the counselling but in dental, it is the same situation in both TS and AP,” C. Lakshmi Narsimha Rao, president, Telangana Medical and Dental Colleges’ Association said.
