BBMP polls: Senior citizens, first-timers come out to vote

Though the voter turnout was quite low, many first-time voters came out to vote

Bengaluru: Though the voter turnout was quite low, many first-time voters came out to vote. However, senior citizens stole the show with their enthusiasm, despite rains throughout the day.

Mr Sanjeev Reddy, a senior citizen and a former HMT general manager, who was voting in Koramangala, said, “I wish the next party in power will at least solve the water, drainage and road issues. The entire city has been troubled by traffic jams. Authorities should focus on developing schools in their localities, so that nobody has to go out.”

But the names of many senior citizens were missing from the electoral rolls. Mr Suresh Kumar, who came out to vote in HSR Layout, said, “I have been trying to find my name for the last 20 minutes. I don’t have much hope.”

The first-time voters were elated with their experience. Ms Soundarya from HSR Layout said, “It was a good feeling to cast my vote for the first time. It is nice to think that my vote is going to be part of a bigger decision. I could not find my name for the first 15 minutes. Then, a new list came in and luckily, my name was in it. I hope the corporator will solve our civic woes.” Mr Sravan K., another first time voter, said, “Finally I did vote and it feels good. I just hope that the city gets better infrastructure in the coming days.”
