AOC closure: Public wants new roads built
Almost 1.9 lakh commuters use the four roads, which pass through AOC every day
Hyderabad: Citizens affected by the Army’s road closure, which is likely to be extended, want the municipal corporation to develop alternative roads, identified and suggested by resident welfare associations.
Commuters need alternative roads from the Safilguda railway station to Allahabad Gate, an approach road from the Thapar stadium to Secunderabad Club and Jubilee bus station.
Almost 1.9 lakh commuters use the four roads, which pass through AOC every day. The main connecting roads are from Safilguda railway station to Allahabad Gate, Secunderabad Club and Picket, West Marredpally to Wellington Enclave (Wellington Road) and Ordnance Road and Mornington Road. Many use the route as a short cut to Malkajgiri and Anandbagh.
Malkajgiri RWA president B.T. Srinivas said, “The Safilguda railway gate has the highest traffic. Parallel to the AOC road, the Army has huge chunks of land extending beyond the Allahabad Gate. If they give this land, a 100-feet road can be developed up to Mahindra Hills Junction. We suggest a route from RK Puram station to Safilguda railway station parallel to the track in the Army area.”
“A ring road around the AOC A1 Defence land will be the best. The Army land at Allahabad Gate should be given to build an approach road towards the road leading to Picket,” added Mr S.K. Raju, member of the United Federation of RWA.
