Films don’t induce violence: Sai Pallavi
Premam-fame Sai Pallavi says youth do not simply imitate what they see on the screen
Thiruvananthapuram: These days, colleges and schools in Kerala have a lot of ‘Georges’ dressed in the trademark Nivin Pauly style black shirt and Kerala Mundu and ‘Malars’ with their hair tied to one side with a string of jasmines in their hair dressed in the traditional Kerala saree aka the Sai Pallavi style.
Clearly, the blockbuster Premam has the student community in a thrall. The recent death of an engineering student of the CET College of Engineering after she was fatally hit by an open roof jeep full of revelers during Onam celebrations in the campus led to a debate on Premam’s influence on students, especially after ADGP Sen Kumar made such a remark.
Georgia-based Sai Pallavi, who shot to superstardom as ‘Malar’, has been in Coimbatore these days on study leave but she told Deccan Chronicle that she was unaware of the incident. But she did not think that the youth simply imitate what they see on the screen.
“Films do have a very big impact on the youth but the youth do have the quality to differentiate what is right and what is wrong! I personally do not believe Premam has influenced anyone in any way; it has just portrayed characters and is one man’s story where he falls in love with his teacher and I don’t believe people would use this as a reason to imitate it”, she said.
