First Ubuntu-powered smartphones enter Indian market

The two smartphones will be available online for purchase by August-end

European tech company BQ has launched two smartphones in India, Aquaris E4.5 and Aquaris E5. The two smartphone are the first devices available in the Indian market that are powered by Ubuntu operating system.

The Aquaris E4.5 and Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Editions have specially been worked on for Indian users. The Ubuntu OS is high on gesture controls, and has a feature called Scopes, that are basically widget-like quick start screens for quick access to content. Both the devices will be fully unlocked with dual-SIM functionality.

The Aquaris E4.5 will sport a 4.5-inch qHD IPS display with Dragontrail protection. It features an 8MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera. The smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core Cortex A7 processor, along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, which is expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card. In terms of connectivity, the Aquaris E4.5 includes 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. A 2150mAh battery powers the smartphone.

On the other hand, the Aquaris E5 sports a 5-inch display HD IPS display with Dragontrail protection. It features a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera. The smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core Cortex A7 processor, along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which is expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card. In terms of connectivity, the Aquaris E5 include, 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.

The two smartphones will be exclusively available on the e-retailing website Snapdeal by the end of August. The Aquaris E4.5 and the Aquaris E5 will be priced at Rs 11,999 and Rs 13,499 respectively.
