Bowlers must bat well, says Sachin Tendulkar
Tendulkar said a good bowler forces a batsman to play wherever he wants him to play
Chennai: They say listening is better than speaking and when a player of Sachin Tendulkar’s stature talks, it’s nothing short of gospel for aspiring cricketers. The trainees at MRF Pace Foundation couldn’t take their eyes off the batting legend when he delivered a 30-odd minute pep talk on Friday. The budding pacers got a peek into the thought process of the legend even as Glenn McGrath joined them in asking Tendulkar questions.
The 42-year-old said the advent of T20 has changed the dynamics of cricket so much that it’s imperative for bowlers to pay attention to their batting. “The game is changing and it has become more challenging since the introduction of T20. One has to be good in all departments. Earlier, bowlers who batted a bit could survive in topflight cricket, but it’s not enough anymore. A bowler needs to be a good fielder and you have to work on your batting as well in order to retain your spot,” he added.
Tendulkar said a good bowler forces a batsman to play wherever he wants him to play. “I always remember McGrath as someone who persisted with his plans,” he said.
