Property seized from burglars in Nellore

The gang is involved in 28 other cases

Nellore: Gudur rural police recovered gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 12,78,650 from a three-member gang at Gudur. The accused had stolen the ornaments from different temples in the district apart from some houses during last three years. The gang is involved in 28 cases.

The offenders have been identified as Sankupala Gopal, 40, of Krishnapuram Colony, Varagali cross road in Chillakur mandal, Kondapati Prasad, 43, of Shramika Nagar, Kotturu in Nellore and Ketamreddy Vamsikrishna Reddy, 28, of Gandhi Nagar, West Gudur. According to Gudur rural circle Inspector P. Srinivasulu Reddy, Gopal was running a fast food centre at Varagali Crossroad and Prasad was a cook living in Gudur.

Prasad was involved in 36 cases in and around Nellore before 2008 and there was a suspect sheet against him in Fifth Town police station at Nellore. However he could not save any money and he worked as cook at Mizoram, Hyderabad and Chennai to eke out a living.

He invited Gopal to join him to resume burglaries and their first target was Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in Gudur in December 2012. Both left Gudur fearing arrest and lived for a while in Hyderabad working in a dhaba.

They returned in 2014 and invited Vamsikrishna Reddy to join them. The trio went on stealing spree from August 2014 and robbed property worth Rs 18,62,100 till their arrest on Friday. They are involved in 29 cases during the last one year under different police station limits in Nellore region.
