Mission Kochi on track, says Mayor Tony Chammany

Eight modules of e-governance have already been introduced, programme to be fully commissioned by Septemeber

KOCHI: As the Mission 15-08-15 programme of the city corporation ended last week, Mayor Tony Chammany has claimed it to be a big success with 31 of the 33 projects selected on track and works progressing at a fast pace.

Mr. Chammany told reporters here that Mission Kochi was a unique step taken by the civic body to complete projects in line with the state government’s Mission 676.

It was on August 25 last year that the chief minister inaugurated the Mission which aimed at completing 33 projects in 393 days.

“Except the international film festival and tourism facilitation centre at Mattancherry Parvana, all other 31 schemes have either been completed or are in various stages of progress. Ernakulam Town Hall renovation and the animal birth control (ABC) programme have been already completed while other long-drawn proposals like new corporation office building at Marine Drive, new solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram and e-governance are progressing,” the Mayor said.

Eight modules of e-governance have already been introduced and the programme will be fully commissioned by next month. For the Brahmapuram plant, two companies have been shortlisted and technical consultant KITCO will finally select a firm after evaluating the financial proposal.

The civic body has inked an agreement with Cochin Shipyard for construction of two Ro-Ro vessels to be introduced on Vypeen – Fort Kochi route. The first vessel will be launched by June next year.

The national highway beautification has already been completed while Broadway beautification and renovation of Subhash Bose Park are progressing.

“Regarding the e-waste disposal facility, an agreement was signed with Clean Kerala Company which has already initiated construction of waste disposal units. Tendering for the multi-level parking system proposed at Kacheripady is on while the septage treatment plant at the Brahmapuram yard will be inaugurated in September,” said Mr. Chammany.

The projects are being implemented using its own fund, plan fund, loans and also on BOT and PPP basis.
