KOCHI: The Kochi Metro Rail Limited will undertake household surveys to understand the travel and socio-economic characteristics of the families residing in the Greater Kochi region.
The initiative is part of three major studies to develop a holistic approach to resolve the issues in the transport sector.
The studies are named ‘Integrated Public Transportation Solutions for Greater Kochi Region,’ ‘Non-motorised Transport Master Plan for Kochi City’ and ‘Comprehensive Mobility Plan and Parking Master Plan for Greater Kochi Region.’
Urban Mass Transit Company Limited (UMTC), the consultant selected for the studies, will be responsible for the household surveys.
UMTC has appointed Datacorp Private Ltd for the detailed surveys. The surveys are expected to continue for 45 days. The data collected by the Datacorp Private Ltd will be used for the studies and kept confidential with KMRL.
The representatives of Datacorp Pvt. Ltd will visit families in different parts of the city to carry out the survey and data collection.
The KMRL has requested the public to co-operate with the survey and help the agency to make the report more precise.
A request in this regard has been submitted to Kochi Mayor, chairmen of municipalities and presidents of panchayats in the Greater Kochi area.
