Clay Ganesh idols to be stored in HMDA parks

This move will help with storage issues
Hyderabad: Lumbini Park, the outer walkway of KBR Park and Sanjeevaiah Park will be used as storage shelters for clay Ganesh idols from the first week of September. Most manufacturers have units on the city’s outskirts. This move will help with storage issues.
Earlier, the HMDA used to purchase idols from clay manufacturers and sell them with 50 per cent subsidy to the general public. S. Srinivas, a member, of the HMDA’s Buddha Purnima Project, said “Around 80 per cent of the manufacturers face storage and publicity problems. The idol preparation begins weeks before the festival. However they are stored at places like Narsingi, Parigi and near Chilkur Balaji temple.”
He added that even during sale, they issue receipt on payment, but make the delivery days later. Since 2011, the HMDA has been purchasing idols and selling them at 50 per cent subsidy. But this year, certain portions will be set aside for storage shelters for small and big idols (3 to 9 feet ) at HMDA parks around Hussainsagar and the KBR Park outer walkway.
Mr Srinivas said, “Park visitors and walkers will not face any obstacles as the corners of the parks will be used. The HMDA will set up banners to help with publicity. The manufacturers are allowed to sell the idols at their price.”
Close to the festive week, clay idol stalls will be set up along Necklace Road. Separate kiosks will be set up at At Sanjeevaiah Park, Lumbini Park and NTR Gardens for sale. Officials added, “The main purpose of this campaign is to educate people on environmental issues and how to protect lakes. The idols will be available for sale from the second week of September.”
