‘Go slow’ strike at Indian Oil Corporation bottling plant called off

The workers went on strike demanding a wage hike and settlement of their arrears

Kollam: The ‘go slow’ strike by workers of the Indian Oil Corporation bottling plant at Parippally here was called off after a meeting held in the presence of the additional district magistrate approved a wage hike with retrospective effect.

The workers went on strike demanding a wage hike and settlement of their arrears. The authorities have also agreed on the condition that the arrears would be paid to the workers along with their salaries of September and October.

The truck drivers will enjoy a hike of Rs 175 in their daily salaries to get Rs 725. The salary will be hiked each year starting from 2015, Rs 750 in 2016 and Rs 800 in 2017.

The drivers will get a festival allowance of Rs 7,000 and co-drivers Rs 3,500. An additional allowance of Rs 3 will be given for the first 175 kilometres in their trip this year and will be hiked at the rate of Rs 3.25 and Rs 3.50 in the next two years.

The truck drivers at the plant with the new salary scale will have an overall hike of Rs 3,336 per month.

The wage hike will be given to the employees with retrospective effect from April 1 this year.
