THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 37-year-old newspaper agent who was arrested by Kanjiramkulam police on Friday confessed that he had murdered his brother and dumped the body in the sea.
The accused identified as Satheesh, 37, alias Kovalam Satheesh was held for murdering his brother, taxi-driver Shaji, 35 of Ilanji-kkal Vilakom, Mullor-konam near Vizhinjam.
As per the police, Shaji, a known anti-social and alcoholic used to get into altercations with his brother. Shaji was earlier arrested by police for attacking his brother’s wife.
On August 17, the night before Vaavubali, Shaji who was standing in an inebriated state in front of their ancestral home verbally abused his brother. An infuriated Satheesh, kicked the man on his chest and he fell down and the back of his head hit a huge stone.
“The accused who left the spot returned after an hour at around 10.30 pm to find that his brother was still motionless. He then stuffed Shaji into gunny back. When he started moving he strangulated him to death with a towel,” said DYSP Suresh Kumar.
The suspect claimed that he took the gunny bag on his scooter and dumped it at the harbour near Kuris-hadi. Further he called their father Ratnswami from Shaji’s phone posing as a friend and said that he had gone to Ernakulam with his taxi.
Later when the body surfaced at Pullvila beach, he played an active role in bringing it ashore. Also, he accompanied his father Ratnaswamy who identified Shaji on the basis of his peculiar teeth structure.
However, police under SP Shefeen Ahamed and Poovar circle inspector A.O. Sunil arrested the man based on scientific investigation.
The local residents allege involvement of more persons as they say it is impossible for a thin Satheesh to stack a hefty Shaji on his own into the front of the scooter.
