Dowry harassment: Newlywed ends life

The deceased has been identified as Renuka, 29, wife of Vishwanath

Bengaluru: A newly married woman committed suicide by hanging at her relative’s house in DRDO Quarters in Byappanahalli police limits on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Renuka, 29, wife of Vishwanath, who works as a cook in a canteen at Electronics and Mechanical Engineering Division of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Police said Renuka and Vishwanath hailed from Tumkur. They got married three months ago. According to the police, the incident occurred around 4 p.m. While Vishwanath and his uncle had gone for work, his aunt went to bring her daughter home from school.

When Vishwanath’s aunt returned home with her daughter, they found Renuka hanging from the ceiling fan. They also found a note in which Renuka alleged that she was harassed for dowry by Vishwanath’s parents. Byappanahalli police have registered a case of dowry death. Further investigations are on.
