Baahubali’s success has humbled me: Tamannaah

Tamannaah Bhatia talks about her struggling period, Baahubali’s success and upcoming projects

Tamannaah Bhatia, who recently turned 25, has been in the film industry for 10 years, was part of India's “biggest motion picture” and even has her own jewellery label. But she admits that the journey lately wasn’t that smooth with her Bollywood films failing to make a mark. “Everybody likes to look at the rising sun,” says Tamannaah, who has had her own share of struggles in the past. “I was 13 when I started, but I got success only after my fifth film.

There are two sides to the same coin and I have seen both the sides. If anything, the success of Baahubali has humbled me — the one in Hindi has even fared better than the one in Telugu.

All I can say is that I am at peace with myself now,” she says. “I am more careful with choosing the projects I want to work on now. I didn’t get a good response with my Bollywood films, so I don’t want to make the same mistakes in the future,” says the actress, who is working in a bilingual with Karthi and Nagarjuna and also on another film with Ravi Teja.

During the shoot of Baahubali, even though Rajamouli took extra care to avoid any leaks, it didn’t stop Tamannaah’s mother from accompanying her on the sets. “My mum is the last person you can get anything out of,” she says with a laugh.

“She wasn’t present throughout the shoot. But I love having her around because then I don’t have to worry about anything,” she says.

The shoot for the second part of the film hasn’t commenced yet, one where the actress doesn’t have that big a role. “I guess the film is larger than a single person. The first one has been taken so beautifully that I don’t want to be greedy for more,” she says.

And when it comes to Rajamouli’s Mahabharata project, she says, “More than being a part of the project, I would be really happy as an audience because he is the only director that can attempt such a project,” she says.

She was in Hyderabad to inaugurate the Ayurvedic Doctors Meet by Banjara’s, known for their natural and herbal products. “I oil my hair twice a week, apply besan, yoghurt and uptan regularly. I have been doing this since I was a kid. Now that I am in a profession where your hair goes for a toss, I am more into ayurvedic products. Even when it comes to fitness, I train for an hour at the gym; your fitness is 70 per cent nutrition and 30 per cent exercise. I have three different trainers but that’s because I am constantly travelling,” she says.

From shooting to travelling to attending endorsements' events, the actress admits that her day is as predictable as it can get. “Some days, I am up very early and on other occasions, my day starts quite late. I like this hum-drum,” she says.

“Nowadays, nobody just does one thing. But the idea for a jewellery line was something dad and I were working on for the past two years. He is into the business so I just had to spend quite a lot of time with him, learning about it,” says Tamannaah about her jewellery line.
