Pakistan forced to call off Commonwealth Parliamentary Union meet

Venue has been shifted as Pak earlier declined to invite the Speaker of J&K Assembly

Islamabad: The Commonwealth Parliamentary Union (CPU) event scheduled to be held in Islamabad next month will now be held in New York, Pakistan National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said on Thursday.

The venue has been shifted as Pakistan earlier declined to invite the Speaker of the Kashmir Assembly. “We clarified to the London Secretariat of Commonwealth that Kashmir is a disputed territory and now it is impossible for the Commonwealth Conference to be held in Pakistan,” Mr Sadiq said. The J&K Speaker will be invited to New York.
