Telangana plans IT park on Malakpet Race Course
Hyderabad: After a brief hiatus, the issue of shifting the Malakpet Race Course is back in focus. The Telangana government, which had earlier planned an education hub, is now actively considering setting up an IT Park at Malakpet Race Course, which is located in the heart of the city.
Proposals are being prepared to shift both the race course and the Chanchalguda Jail to the city’s outskirts.
The government is planning an education hub at the Chanchalguda prison premises. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had come up with the idea of shifting the Malakpet Race Course and the Chanchalguda Jail to the city’s outskirts in March 2014, even before the TRS had won the polls.
After assuming office, Mr Rao had reiterated in October 2014 that Chanchalguda Jail and Malakpet Race Course, which he had called the “centre of gambling” would be shifted outside the city and the space would be used for education purposes of minority students and others.
He had said that the shifting would make available hundreds of acres for the government, which could be used for the welfare of people.
Mr Rao had proposed to shift Chanchalguda Jail to the premises of the Cherlapally prison.
“Both these proposals mooted by the CM are very much under active consideration of the government. The government is now planning to set up an IT Park at Malakpet Race Course and an education hub in the Chanchalguda jail,” said Deputy CM Mohd. Mahmood Ali. He said both these were suitable to set up an IT Park and an education hub.
While the racecourse is spread over 126 acre, the Chanchalguda Jail is on 60 acre. The government is also planning to shift the state printing press, which is spread over 50 acre, abutting the jail.
If these institutions are shifted, the government will get nearly 240 acre of land.
