Technopark cyber dome kicks off in October
KOCHI: The much hyped cyber police dome project on Technopark campus in Thiruvananthapuram will start functioning in October this year.
Speaking after inaugurating the eighth edition of COCON-2015, an international conference on cyber security here on Thursday, home minister Ramesh Chennithala the project was part of the modernisation of Kerala police in cyber policing.
It envisages a hi-tech centre aimed at hosting a slew of activities such as cyber patrolling, online investigations, cyber security awareness and research and innovations in cyber forensics with the support of private firms.
In addition to the cyber police station currently operating in Thiruvananthapuram, three more stations will be opened in Kochi Kozhikode and Kannur this year, Mr. Chennithala said.
The minister said the state police had successfully handled the challenges of investigating cyber crimes.
“Every day, police in the state is flooded with complaints ranging from bank account hacking, piracy of films and blackmailing,” he said.
“The Supreme Court annulling section 66 of the IT Act and section 118D of the Kerala Police Act has impacted the cyber crime probes to a large extent”.
He said the police needed the cooperation of multiple agencies for preventing cyber crimes. The cyber-dome project was conceived as a public-private partnership by taking this into account.
The two-day international conference hosted by the Kerala police with the support of IT Mission is attended by delegates from different parts of the country and abroad. Governor P. Sathasivam will inaugurate the valedictory session on Friday.
