Jubilee Hills shootout: Cops knew about gang’s movements
Hyderabad: City police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said that the cops had planned to bust the gun-wielding gang of suspected robbers who opened fire in Jubilee Hills on Thursday and had information about their arrival and movements in the city.
“This was a brave attempt by our men, who caught them before the robbery. Unfortunately a civilian was injured when the robbers opened fire,” he said.
The arrested people were identified as Mirza Mohammed Abdullah Baig alias Faheem, Abdul Qadeer, both robbers from Gulbarga, and their friend and employee of the Big C outlet, Mohammed Samiuddin.
The incident took place after 1 pm near Neeru’s Emporium at Road No. 36. “We were waiting at the signal near the showroom. There were three persons on a bike and one of them was talking on a phone. As soon as the signal turned red, cops, most of them in mufti, came running towards the signal and caught the accused persons on the bike. During the scuffle, one of them fell down. He got up and opened fire suddenly,” said a witness.
The injured victim, Dharmendra Singh, an employee of L&T, was in a DCM van when the scuffle between the cops and robbers was on.
He was rushed to the KIMS hospital at Kondapur where his condition is stable after surgery.
The public panicked after the gunshot. However, several police officials rushed to the spot and took control of the situation. The police is investigating into the gang’s history and their other plans in Hyderabad.
