Centre sanctions Rs 99.86 crore for tourism development in Telangana

An 'Integrated Development of Eco-Tourism Circuit' will be developed in Mahabubnagar

Hyderabad: The Tourism Ministry has sanctioned Rs 99.86 crores for the 'Integrated Development of Eco-Tourism Circuit' in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana.

Telangana Tourism Corporation has proposed a tourism circuit highlighting the scenic beauty of the region, covering forests, tiger reserve and wildlife, waterfalls, caves, rivers and reservoirs and ancient temples, taking care to incorporate tourist-friendly amenities and infrastructure, including a water-sports hub at Singottam reservoir, to make it a must-see destination.

The advantage of the eco-tourism circuit, apart from its natural beauty, is the existing well-developed connectivity. The well-connected Hyderabad city is followed by the easily accessible NH-44 and State Highway upto Kollapur/Singottam/Somasila.

Following the initiative taken earlier by Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TSTDC) Chairman Pervaram Ramulu and the tourism department, the project was sanctioned under Swadesh Darshan Mission 2015-16, an official release said.

The project was finalised following the Mission Directorate Committee meeting held in New Delhi recently. The project includes works on Somasila riverside development with jetties and boating facilities, development of Singottam reservoir and tourist facilitation centre, and development of Akka Mahadevi caves with illumination and visitors amenities among others.

The project will be commenced shortly by TSTDC as the main implementing agency, in partnership with the state's forest, irrigation, endowments and archaeology departments.

There will also be provision for several PPP mode components that can be developed to add value to the tourist experience, like ropeways, tourist cottages and cruise boats.

Private sea-plane operators have also shown interest in adding to the activity at the water-ports hub, which will be a unique experience for tourists, the release added.
