Nikhil Advani can’t seem to wipe the smile off his face. The director has two films releasing next month. The Sooraj Pancholi-Athiya Shetty starrer Hero on September 11 and the Imran Khan-Kangana Ranaut starrer Katti-Batti the following week.
“Don’t look at me like that! I didn’t plan it that way,” Nikhil told us with a laugh when we quizzed him about his consecutive Friday trysts at the box office. “Hero would’ve released much earlier, but got delayed due to various reasons. Meanwhile, I started working on Katti Batti and that got done without any hiccups. It’s a coincidence that they’re releasing within a week of each other.”
Does he worry about the release dates being this close to each other? “I don’t think audiences are going to check the director’s name in the credits before deciding whether they want to see the films. Don’t forget, I have done five different stories in one film (Salaam-e-Ishq). In any case, Hero and Katti Batti are two very different films. And if my memory serves me correctly, David Dhawan had two releases on the same Friday — Mr & Mrs Khiladi and Deewana Mastana,” he says.
Which one of the two is closer to his heart? “What makes Hero unique for me is the fact that this is the first time I am making a film to launch two newcomers, so it feels like a big responsibility,” Nikhil admits....
