Uber at it again, couple targeted in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: App-based cab aggregator, Uber, is in the news again for all the wrong reasons. A couple, Naina and Ved, have alleged that the driver of a Uber cab, Suresh Babu, tried to physically assault them on Tuesday and refused to drop them at the designated point.
No formal complaint was made as the issue was resolved through a compromise by the police. Uber officials said that the accounts of both the driver and the customer couple have been kept on hold till the matter is resolved.
The couple, who started from Koramangala, were heading to two different meetings at different places. But after dropping Ved at Bellandur Eco Space, the cab driver refused to go to Hebbal, where Naina was headed.
The driver moved a little distance ahead and stopped, the couple alleged. Naina called Ved immediately and informed him that the cab driver was refusing to move. Ved arrived at the spot and started an argument. The driver took a jack out of the car’s boot to hit the couple, but Ved managed to snatch it out of his hand. The couple alerted the HAL police, who arrived over an hour later. The police team then pacified the couple and the driver, and ended the row with a compromise.
A Uber official told DC, “We expect riders to go to the police and lodge a complaint. But in this case, it was solved out of the station. We will wait and see how the investigation pans out.”
