Telangana Power Generation Corporation expects nod for Bhadradri
TSGenco should change the technology used in the project
Hyderabad: The Telangana Power Generation Corporation is hopeful of securing clearances for the 4x270 Bhadradri plant at Manuguru in Khammam from the Centre. The project clearance wing of the Union environment ministry had stated that TSGenco should change the technology used in the project from “sub-critical” to “supercritical”. Alternatively, the project should be presented to Union power ministry for prior approval.
According to global standards, thermal power plants above 600 MW should use ‘supercritical’ technology which burns less fuel. The Centre had made certain proposals, including shifting it to another site as it falls within the forest range; optimising the land requirement as per CEA norms, and revising the plant layout by shifting the locations of ash pond and township.
The project was awarded to BHEL which has boilers using sub-critical technology. TSGenco had agreed to use this technology due to the power crisis at the time of signing the MoU in October 2014. It says BHEL would bring down the gestation period of the project by one year, by installing units lying idle with it.
“We cannot suddenly change it. Our CM has written to the Prime Minister and the power minister and sought exemption on this issue and they were positive,” said C. Radha Krishna, director of projects, TSGenco.
