Tamil moviemaker not cooperating, say cops

Police sources said that Sekar who appeared in court escorted by more than a dozen of lawyers, refused to answer any question
Chennai: Idol wing personnel took moviemaker V. Sekar into custody for detailed questioning on Tuesday evening, hoping that he would throw more light on the modus operandi of the gang that stole 8 idols worth over Rs 77 crore in January this year from three temples.
However, they decided to send him back to judicial custody within 24 hours, saying that he was not
co-operating during enquiry.
Though the court granted custody till Friday, investigators from the idol wing aborted their grilling plan and sent Sekar back to the prison.
Police sources said that Sekar who appeared in court escorted by more than a dozen of lawyers, refused to answer any question. “He did not co-operate and lost the chance to place his version on record,” a police officer noted.
Meanwhile, officials probing the smuggling racket network indicated that they had gathered stronger evidence against Sekar and the other arrested suspects including a movie production executive and a government printing press employee. They are also on the lookout for a sub inspector of police, Ravichandran, based a on confession of a scribe working for a Tamil monthly.
