Radhe Maa records statement in dowry harassment case
Mumbai: As part of the high court grounds for interim bail, self-proclaimed godwoman Radhe Maa was present before the Kandivali police station on Wednesday where her statements were recorded in connection with an alleged dowry harassment case. She will have to be present again next Wednesday between 11 am to 1 pm, the police said.
According to the Kandivali police, another 23 questions were put to the godwoman in connection with the case. A police source said that Radhe Maa kept referring to her husband, only identified as ‘Daddy’, when speaking to complainant Nikki Gupta while making the alleged dowry demands.
The spiritual leader said that Daddy is her husband and they have a couple of sons. When asked if Daddy too is a suspected accused in the case, senior police inspector Mukund Pawar of Kandivali police denied it.
According to police sources, Radhe Maa also claimed that she does not own properties or have a lot of money. The statement is quite contrary to the one she had given to a news channel in which she said she spends Rs 10 lakh a day and the poor woman (complainant) does not have that kind of money and, hence, the dowry demands are false.
On August 14, officials from the Kandivali and Borivali police stations grilled Radhe Maa for four and a half hours, recording her statements on paper as well on video. Apart from questions on the dowry case, two complaints by two lawyers alleging charges of obscenity and superstition were also asked.
Officials of both cases got answers to 100-odd questions. “I am not a form of the Goddess. I do not do any miracles. I only pray to Vaishno Devi when people come to me I also tell them to pray to Her,” she said in her police statement.
