Hyderabad: More than 232 senior citizens were cheated in Telangana and AP in 2014. In AP and TS, the number of elders who were cheated stood at 156 and 76 respectively.
Most of the cases were financial frauds, in which the victims invested money for higher returns, and got duped. The rate of cheating cases are higher in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada. The victims, most of them living separately from their children, were cheated by Internet fraudsters, realtors, and even “sorcerers”. As per NCRB data, AP has 48.3 lakh senior citizens, while 34.4 lakh senior citizens live in TS.
In Ap, 65 elders were killed while 77 were murdered in TS last year. Around 30 elders were also robbed in AP last year. Tamil Nadu topped the list with 173 murders.
