Mentally-disturbed Odisha woman united with family by police

Hyderabad: A group of citizens has helped the police trace the family of a woman who had gone missing from her village in Odisha and had somehow reached Hyderabad.
On August 11, Ms Anjallee Tiwaarri, assistant vice-president, sales, with a private firm in the city, found Minnitha lying on the AOC road and took her to the Tukaramgate police station.
“She was gesturing that she was unwell and hungry. She wasn’t able to speak and I wasn’t sure of leaving her on the road, said Ms Tiwaarri. “The Tukaramgate police suggested that we put her up in an NGO-run home and we contacted the Good Samaritan Trust of Alwal,” she added.
Minnitha showed them pictures of her home that she was carrying. “One of the pictures had the phone number of the studio behind it and we immediately contacted the person. He turned out to be Minnitha’s brother. We informed the cops about the same for confirmation. They came today to take her back,” said George Rakesh Babu, who runs the trust. Minnitha, a native of Gajapati in Odisha, had gone missing from her village earlier this month and her family had lodged a police complaint at the Gumma village.
“My sister is psychologically disturbed and is under medication. She left home when there was no one else. She becomes very incoherent when she misses her medicines, which is why she wasn’t able to share her details to anyone,” said Mr Amarendra Roula who had come to the police station on Wednesday to take her back.
“It is good that she was traced within a week of rescue. We have informed the police in the village and we have also cautioned the family to be careful,” said Tukaramgate inspector T. Laxminarayana.
