Houses for poor from Dasara

Only 5,500 houses would be built in two districts
Hyderabad: The TRS government’s major poll promise of constructing two-bedroom houses for the poor will be grounded on Dasara. Only 5,500 houses would be built in two districts — probably Warangal and Mahbubnagar — due to fund constraints.
Each house would be built on 560 sq.ft by spending nearly Rs 5.05 lakh. Model 2BHK flats are being built at the IDL Colony in the city in the G+2 format.
The model flats were announced on Dasara last year, when Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao visited the IDL Colony and offered to build the 2BHK flats.
In the districts, the government has planned to build 2BHK houses on independent plots as there are no land constraints unlike in Hyderabad. "There is no going back on providing 2BHK houses for all the homeless poor in the next three years despite financial constraints. There is no question of government collecting some portion of amount from the beneficiaries and it will bear the entire cost," said housing minister A. Indrakaran Reddy.
The government has been engaged in mobilising the financial resources for the project all these years by approaching the Centre and Hudco for help. It has proposed to integrate the Centre’s Housing for All scheme with 2BHK for the purpose for which it had raised no objections.
