Woman injured as chain is snatched

The police has registered a case and is verifying CCTV footages

Hyderabad: Miscreants snatched a gold chain weighing 40 gm from a government employee on Tuesday, severely injuring her in the process.

The incident took place when P. Vardhamma was returning home with her husband on a motorcycle after attending a function at Nampally.

Ms Vardhamma, an attender at the district gazette office in Himayathnagar, and her husband Mr P. Srinivas, a private employee, were attacked as they were getting off the flyover at Nalgonda X roads. They had left the function at around 11 pm.

“Two men on a motorcycle came from behi-nd and pulled the gold chain from Vardha-mma’s neck. When she tried to resist, she and her husband fell on the road,” said Chader-ghat inspector P. Sattaiah.

Ms Vardhamma suffered injuries on her head, right hand and right hip, while her husband escaped without injuries. She was shifted to Yashoda Hospital for treatment where she received seven stitches on her head. She is out of danger now.

The police has registered a case and is verifying CCTV footages. “We have launched special teams to nab the accused. We are verifying old offenders also,” added the inspector. In a recent incident under the OU police station in July, a chain-snatching victim died while undergoing treatment in hospital.
