Dhoni – who was conferred the honorary Lieutenant Colonel rank in 2011 – had expressed his desire to serve in the Army after cricket.
Apart from Dhoni, shooter Abhinav Bindra also shares the same rank. Indian cricket maestro Sachin Tendulkar is also an honorary Group Captain in the IAF.
