Rs 65-crores bus terminal out of bounds
KTDFC authorities claimed that two of the floors had been auctioned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC Bus Terminal Complex, which was constructed spending a whopping Rs 65 crores and inaugurated in February 2014, still remains alien to the public.
Chaos continues to rein in Thampanoor even after the opening of the terminal, which was constructed by KTDFC (Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation).
Apart from taking part in the grand inaugural function, the State authorities continue to ignore the partially functioning terminal complex.
KSRTC alleges architectural failure in the design of the bus terminal as the new terminal can accommodate hardly 50 to 55 buses.
A highly placed official of KSRTC alleged that KTDFC was deliberately delaying the auctioning of the commercial space in the complex.
“KTDFC is demanding unrealistic amounts as deposit. As per the agreement, KTDFC is bound to share fifty percent of the rents and hence they demand huge deposits, shooing away takers. The old terminal could accommodate around 120 to 130 buses,” said the official.
However, KTDFC authorities claimed that two of the floors had been auctioned. “We tried to auction the commercial space multiple times but there were no takers. On Tuesday we could auction two floors. We have written a letter to the government seeking permission to revise the auction procedures to woo more investors,” said KTDFC MD Usha Devi.
She said that the design of the terminal was finalised long ago. “Decongestion would happen at Thampanoor only if the long distant bus operations are relocated to Anayara,” she added.
